Lash extensions are attached individually to the client’s natural lashes so when a natural lash is ready to fall out,
it is allowed to do so freely.
Lashes, in fact every hair on your body, follows a specific lifecycle and grows to a certain length. It follows a three-phase lifecycle before eventually falling out – this is typically nothing to worry about! Hair, including lashes, completely replaces itself every few years.
The upper lid has about 90-150 lashes on it, while the lower lid has between 70-80 lashes. Most lashes grow to be about 10mm long.
LASH PHASES
ANAGEN is the ‘growth’ phase, the first stage of the lash cycle which lasts between 30-45 days. If all our eyelashes were in the anagen phase at the same time, then they’d all be on track to fall out at the same time! Approximately 40% of our upper lashes and 15% of our lower lashes are in the anagen stage at any given time.
CATAGEN is the ‘transition’ phase. Once lashes in the anagen phase reach their designated length, they stop growing and the hair follicle shrinks. Should a lash fall out during this phase, it won’t begin growing back until the catagen phase has run its course, within 2-3 weeks.
TELAGEN is the ‘resting’ phase, a 100-day resting cycle before the lash falls out and a new lash blooms to take its place.
Since our lashes are in different phases of the growth cycle, it’s natural for a few to fall out each day … so blow on that lash and make a wish!
