Determining the length you need to use is easy! As a general rule, you should not suggest a lash extension which is more than A THIRD longer than their natural lash length from the middle of the client’s eye. Once you have determined the length to use in the middle of the client’s eye, selecting other lengths is easy.
Hold the lash to the eye with your tweezers. In your mind’s eye, imagine the natural lash divided into thirds. If the extension is longer by a third, then you have selected correctly – if its too long or too short, repeat the process with a different length extension.
The lash extensions to the left and right of the middle lashes will either be 1mm longer or shorter.
You can get a fairly good understanding of what your client’s expectations are in lash thickness by providing them with a collage of magazine eye photo’s. Take note of which images the client prefers, which will be either a natural or more dramatic look.
It is important to note, and you must also explain, that you are not going to recreate the image they are selecting. At this stage, you are simply trying to gain an overall ‘visual’ for their thoughts.
To create lashes that are more refined, less noticeable and not wanting to make a statement, the 0.10mm or 0.12mm thickness lash is good to use on clients, especially those with a fine lash texture.
They are also suitable for clients who are very fair, have a minimum number of lashes or who are at least 50 years old.
A combination of 0.10mm and 0.12mm thicknesses with the 0.15mm thickness can be used to create a more natural, yet slightly full look.
To create lashes that stand out and really get noticed, the 0.15mm thickness lash is ideal. They should be used on clients with good lash texture, such as those who have thick or many of their own lashes.
Even if the client’s lash texture is considered average or fine, they are still useful if they wish to make a statement with their lashes. However, keep in mind these lashes on a fine natural lash, may not make the extension not last as long because of the additional weight.
CLASSIC VS. VOLUME
The CLASSIC technique is when a single lash extension is applied to a single natural lash. Perfect for clients who already have a lot of lashes but want to add more length. The look of Classic lashes is more natural.
The VOLUME technique (also known as Russian Volume, being originally developed in Russia) is the application of multiple lash extensions to a single natural lash. The extensions used in this method are significantly thinner (usually 0.07mm) than those used for Classic lashes. They give the client a fuller look, perfect for those who don’t have a lot of lashes or want a more noticeable look.

THE RIGHT LASH
Your clients will find their new extensions very exciting and be so thrilled with the enhancement. However, after a period of time, they may get used to the look and want more length or thickness. In some cases, you may be able to use longer and/or thicker lashes without compromising the integrity of the client’s natural lashes.
If a client requests extensions that are inappropriate for their natural lashes, you will more than likely have extra work to do during the refill session. Please explain to the client that you may have to charge them extra due to the extra lashes you will have to apply during the refill sessions.
